Sac Spider
Scientific Name: Cheiracanthium spp.
Order & Family: Araneae, Cheiracanthiidae (formerly Clubionidae)
Size: 3-15 mm (body length)

Natural Habitat
Sac spiders are typically found outdoors in foliage, under rocks, logs, or leaf litter. Indoors, they can be found in corners, along ceiling and wall junctions, and behind furniture or curtains, often in a silken sac.
Diet & Feeding
They are nocturnal predators that actively hunt various small insects, including other spiders, mites, and their eggs. They do not build webs for catching prey but use silk for retreats and egg sacs.
Behavior Patterns
Sac spiders are aggressive hunters. They are active at night and spend their days in a silken sac, often in a curled leaf or a protected corner. They are known for their fast movement and can be quite skittish. When disturbed, they may bite.
Risks & Benefits
The primary risk associated with sac spiders is their bite. While not usually dangerous, a bite can be painful, cause redness, swelling, and sometimes a blister. In rare cases, it might lead to a slow-healing lesion. Benefits include their role as predators of pest insects, contributing to natural pest control both indoors and outdoors.
