Behavior Patterns

Eggs are glued to individual hair shafts near the scalp to use body heat for incubation; they hatch in 7-10 days into nymphs.

Risks & Benefits

They cause intense itching (pediculosis) and secondary skin infections from scratching; unlike body lice, they are not known vectors of disease.
