Primarily feeds on detritus such as dead human skin cells (dander) and some fungal spores.

Behavior Patterns

Microscopic and photophobic (avoid light); they thrive in warm, humid environments (above 70% relative humidity) and have a life cycle of about 65 to 100 days.

Risks & Benefits

Major source of allergens; their waste products and carcasses can trigger asthma, eczema, and allergic rhinitis in humans. However, they play a minor role in breaking down organic matter in the household ecosystem.
