Diet & Feeding
Larvae feed exclusively on the seeds of peas (Pisum sativum) inside the pod; adults feed on the pollen of the host plant.
Behavior Patterns
Adults emerge in spring to feed on pollen before laying eggs on developing pea pods. Larvae tunnel into the seeds where they pupate. They have a single generation per year and often overwinter in stored seeds or sheltered outdoor locations.
Risks & Benefits
Major agricultural pest that reduces seed quality and germination rates. They pose no direct risk to humans, but can cause significant economic losses in the pulse industry.
