Natural Habitat
Damp, dark, and cool areas such as basements, bathrooms, kitchens, and attics; they thrive in high humidity.
Diet & Feeding
Starch-rich items and polysaccharides, including book bindings, glue, paper, photos, sugar, hair, dandruff, and organic debris.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and extremely fast-moving with a fish-like swimming motion. They undergo hemimetabolous metamorphosis (gradual) and can live for several years.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to humans and do not spread disease, but can be significant household pests by damaging books, clothing, and stored food products.
