Natural Habitat

Damp, warm, and dark places such as under wallpaper, in books, food storage areas, and general household clutter where mold or fungi can grow.

Diet & Feeding

Mainly feed on microscopic molds, fungi, starches, glues in bookbindings, paste, and other organic debris. They are not blood feeders.

Behavior Patterns

They are typically active at night and avoid light. They reproduce quickly in favorable conditions (high humidity) and can be an indicator of moisture problems in a home. They do not bite people or pets.

Risks & Benefits

Potential risks include being a nuisance pest indoors, indicating moisture problems which can lead to structural damage or mold growth, and potentially contaminating food products (though they are not known to transmit diseases). They pose no direct health risk to humans and generally have no known benefits.
