Long-bodied Cellar Spider

Natural Habitat

Commonly found in dark, damp areas inside homes and buildings, such as cellars, basements, crawl spaces, and corners of rooms. Also found outdoors in sheltered locations.

Diet & Feeding

Insectivorous. Preys on a variety of small insects and other spiders, including much larger species like hobo spiders, hobo spiders, and even black widow spiders.

Behavior Patterns

Known for building irregular, tangled webs in corners. They are often seen vibrating rapidly when disturbed, which is thought to make them harder for predators to catch. They are generally nocturnal.

Risks & Benefits

Potential risks are minimal; their fangs are too small to easily penetrate human skin, and their venom is not considered medically significant to humans. Benefits include natural pest control, as they prey on household insects and other spiders, making them beneficial residents in many homes.
