Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding
Herbivorous; they pierce plant tissues with their mouthparts to suck out phloem sap (the nutrient-rich liquid in plants).
Behavior Patterns
They are slow-moving insects that secrete a white, waxy, cotton-like substance for protection from heat and moisture loss. Females stay on plants while males are tiny, winged, and short-lived.
Risks & Benefits
Significant plant pests that weaken hosts, cause leaf yellowing, and promote 'sooty mold' growth through their sugary waste (honeydew). They pose no direct risk to humans but can devastate gardens and agriculture.
