Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding

Omnivorous scavengers; they eat almost anything organic, including food scraps, grease, pet food, and even non-food items like soap or glue if resources are scarce.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal; hides during the day in cracks and crevices. Very fast runners and prolific breeders. Releases pheromones to communicate. Females carry their egg cases (oothecae) until shortly before hatching.

Risks & Benefits

Risks: Considered a significant household pest due to their ability to spread bacteria (e.g., Salmonella, E. coli), allergens, and protozoa, potentially triggering allergies and asthma. They can contaminate food and surfaces. No known benefits to humans or ecosystems in an indoor pest context.
