Mold Mite

Natural Habitat

Indoor environments with high humidity (over 65%), specifically areas with mold growth, damp pantry items, or bird/rodent nests.

Diet & Feeding

Primarily feeds on mold (fungi), yeasts, and high-protein/fat food items like cheese, nuts, seeds, and dried eggs.

Behavior Patterns

They reproduce rapidly in humid conditions. They are often seen as moving white 'dust' when gathered in large numbers. Their life cycle from egg to adult can take as little as 10 to 20 days depending on temperature.

Risks & Benefits

They do not bite or sting humans or pets. However, they can cause 'grocer's itch' (allergic dermatitis) and respiratory allergies or asthma if inhaled. They are indicators of a moisture or mold problem in the home.
