Natural Habitat
Damp, dark, and cool environments with high humidity such as basements, bathrooms, kitchens, and attics.
Diet & Feeding
Starchy substances, sugars, and carbohydrates. This includes book bindings, paper, clothing (cotton/linen), wallpaper paste, and spilled cereal.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and fast-moving. They undergo ametabolous metamorphosis (changing very little as they develop from nymph to adult) and can live for several years.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to humans and pets as they do not bite or carry disease. However, they are considered pests because they can cause significant damage to household items like books, documents, and textiles.
