Size: Very small, typically 1/16 to 1/8 inch (1-3 mm) long.

Natural Habitat
Damp, moist environments. Frequently found in soil, leaf litter, decaying wood, potted plants, and sometimes in bathrooms, basements, or on the surface of swimming pools.
Diet & Feeding
Mainly detritivores and fungivores; they feed on decaying organic matter, bacteria, pollen, algae, and fungi.
Behavior Patterns
Named for their unique ability to jump using a tail-like appendage called a 'furcula' tucked under their abdomen. They congregate in large numbers where moisture is high.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to humans and pets; they do not bite or sting. They are beneficial recyclers in soil ecosystems but can be a nuisance pest in homes, especially in damp areas or swimming pools.
