Ground Spider
Scientific Name: Gnaphosidae (family)
Order & Family: Araneae, Gnaphosidae
Size: Typically 3-15 mm in body length, with some species being larger.

Natural Habitat
Ground spiders live on or near the ground, often under rocks, logs, leaf litter, or in cracks and crevices. They can be found in a variety of environments including forests, grasslands, gardens, and sometimes indoors.
Diet & Feeding
Mainly insects and other small invertebrates. They are predators.
Behavior Patterns
Ground spiders are typically active hunters, usually at night. They do not build webs for catching prey but rather actively pursue and ambush their victims. They are fast-moving. Females create a silk retreat for their egg sacs and during molting.
Risks & Benefits
Generally beneficial as they prey on various insects, including some pests. They are not considered dangerous to humans. Bites are rare and typically result in only mild, localized pain and swelling, similar to a bee sting, due to their non-toxic venom.
