Diet & Feeding
Primarily feeds on mold, fungi, and products high in protein or fat, such as cheese, nuts, seeds, and dried eggs.
Behavior Patterns
They are photophobic (avoid light) and thrive in humidity above 60%. They have a rapid life cycle and can appear as 'moving dust' when populations explode.
Risks & Benefits
Non-biting, but can cause 'grocer's itch' (allergic dermatitis) and respiratory allergies/asthma in sensitive individuals. They can contaminate stored food products but serve as decomposers in nature.
