Clover Mite

Natural Habitat

Found worldwide, typically in well-fertilized lawns with heavy vegetation, though they frequently invade indoor structures in spring and autumn.

Diet & Feeding

Herbivorous; they feed on the sap of over 200 different plants including grasses, clover, ivy, and various trees.

Behavior Patterns

They are most active during cool weather. When crushed, they leave a characteristic reddish stain due to their body pigments (not blood). They reproduce parthenogenetically, meaning males are not required.

Risks & Benefits

They do not bite humans or pets and do not carry diseases. They are primarily a nuisance pest because they leave red stains on carpets and upholstery when crushed and can invade homes in massive numbers.
