Size: Typically 12 to 19 mm (0.5 to 0.75 inches) in length, excluding appendages.

Natural Habitat
They thrive in dark, humid environments such as bathrooms, basements, attics, and kitchens. They often hide in cracks, crevices, behind wallpaper, or in book bindings.
Diet & Feeding
They feed on carbohydrates, particularly sugars and starches. Key food sources include paper, book glue, wallpaper paste, clothing (cotton, linen, silk), shampoo, rolled oats, and dried meat.
Behavior Patterns
Silverfish are nocturnal and move quickly with a wiggling motion resembling a swimming fish. They are extremely resilient and can survive for weeks without food. They undergo simple metamorphosis (egg to nymph to adult) and continue to molt throughout their lives.
Risks & Benefits
Risks: They are considered household pests because they can damage property such as books, documents, photos, tapestries, and clothing. They can also contaminate food. Benefits: They do not bite or sting humans and do not transmit diseases; they primarily act as decomposers in nature.
