Natural Habitat

Indoor environments near moisture and warmth, such as kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms. They often hide in cracks and crevices.

Diet & Feeding

The developing nymphs inside are fed by the yolk within the egg case. Once hatched, they are omnivorous scavengers that consume food scraps, grease, starch, and glue.

Behavior Patterns

The female German cockroach carries the ootheca attached to her abdomen until just before the eggs are ready to hatch, which is unique among domestic cockroaches. Each case contains 30-40 eggs and takes about 28 days to hatch.

Risks & Benefits

Risks: Major domestic pest; known to spread bacteria (Salmonella, E. coli), parasitic worms, and pathogens. They also produce allergens that can trigger asthma. Benefits: None in a human residential setting.
