Natural Habitat

Found in close proximity to human sleeping quarters, such as cracks in bed frames, mattresses, and walls in residential buildings, hotels, and public transport.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophages; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal pests that hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and require a blood meal to progress to each life stage.

Risks & Benefits

Risk: They cause itchy, red welts and can lead to anxiety and insomnia. They are not known to transmit diseases, but infestations are costly and difficult to eradicate. Benefit: No known ecological benefits to human environments.
