Natural Habitat
Typically found in indoor environments near where people sleep, including bed frames, mattresses, and cracks and crevices in furniture or baseboards.
Diet & Feeding
Strictly hematophagous (blood-feeders), primarily targeting humans but also feeding on other warm-blooded animals if a human host is unavailable.
Behavior Patterns
Mainly nocturnal; they hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and require a blood meal at each stage of development.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include skin irritation, itchy bites, and physiological distress or insomnia. While they are not known to transmit diseases to humans, infestations can be difficult and costly to eradicate.
