Yellow-collared Scape Moth Caterpillar
Scientific Name: Cisseps fulvicollis (larva)
Order & Family: Order: Lepidoptera, Family: Erebidae
Size: Caterpillars grow up to approximately 20-30 mm (0.8-1.2 inches) in length.

Natural Habitat
Found in a variety of open habitats including gardens, fields, meadows, roadsides, and disturbed areas where their host plants are present.
Diet & Feeding
The caterpillars are herbivores, primarily feeding on the leaves of various plants, including common plantain (Plantago major), dandelion (Taraxacum officinale), and other low-growing herbaceous plants. Adult moths feed on nectar.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae (caterpillars) are typically found feeding on the leaves of their host plants. They are often active during the day. After reaching full size, they will pupate, usually in the soil or leaf litter, before emerging as adult moths. The adult moths are nocturnal.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to humans. They are not known to be pests of agricultural crops, but can consume leaves of common weeds. As part of the food chain, they serve as a food source for birds and other insectivores. Adult moths are pollinators.
