Natural Habitat
Damp, dark, and cool environments such as basements, bathrooms, kitchens, and attics.
Diet & Feeding
Carbohydrates, specifically sugars and starches. They often consume book bindings, wallpaper paste, paper, carpet, clothing, and cereals.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and highly agile; they are known for their fish-like swaying movement while running. They have a long lifespan (2-8 years) and undergo ametabolous metamorphosis (nymphs look like small adults).
Risks & Benefits
They are considered household pests because they can damage books, photographs, and textiles. They do not bite or transmit diseases to humans but can trigger allergies in some people.
