Silverfish
Scientific Name: Lepisma saccharinum
Order & Family: Zygentoma (formerly Thysanura); Lepismatidae
Size: Typically 12–19 mm (0.5–0.75 inches) in length, excluding appendages.

Natural Habitat
Typically found in dark, damp environments such as basements, bathrooms, and attics. They prefer humidity levels between 75% and 95%.
Diet & Feeding
They feed on carbohydrates, particularly sugars and starches. This includes paper, glue, clothing (cotton, linen, silk), shampoo, dandruff, and dried foods like cereal or pasta.
Behavior Patterns
Silverfish are nocturnal and move very quickly with a wiggling motion that resembles a fish swimming. They are long-lived (can live up to 8 years) and can survive for a year without eating.
Risks & Benefits
They pose no direct threat to human health (they do not bite or sting) but are considered household pests because they can damage property like books, wallpaper, carpet, and clothing by eating them. They can also contaminate food sources.
