Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding
Feeds primarily on the seeds and cones of conifers (e.g., pines, firs, spruces). They use their piercing-sucking mouthparts to extract sap.
Behavior Patterns
During late summer and fall, adults often aggregate and seek shelter in protected places, including homes and other buildings, to overwinter. They produce a strong, unpleasant odor when disturbed. They are strong fliers.
Risks & Benefits
Potential risks include being a nuisance pest when they invade homes in large numbers, though they do not bite or sting. They can cause minor damage to conifer seeds or developing cones in commercial timber operations. Generally harmless to humans.
