Natural Habitat
Various environments, often found in fields, gardens, and urban areas under leaf litter, stones, or other debris. Can also enter homes.
Diet & Feeding
Primarily granivorous, feeding on seeds from a variety of plants. Occasionally may feed on other plant parts or small insects.
Behavior Patterns
They are typically ground-dwelling and nocturnal. They overwinter as adults and may aggregate in large numbers, especially during cooler seasons, around structures or indoors. They are known to be able to fly.
Risks & Benefits
Generally considered a nuisance pest when they enter homes in large numbers, but they do not bite or cause structural damage. They are not known to transmit diseases. In natural environments, they contribute to seed dispersal and decomposition, though they can sometimes be minor agricultural pests by feeding on seeds.
