Feeds primarily on microscopic fungi, mold, mildew, algae, and decaying organic matter.

Behavior Patterns

Wingless hexapods known for their ability to jump significant distances when disturbed, using a spring-like appendage called a furcula. They often appear in large numbers in areas with persistent moisture.

Risks & Benefits

Primarily a nuisance pest; they do not bite, sting, transmit diseases, or cause structural damage. Their presence indoors is a strong indicator of a moisture problem, leak, or high humidity. In the ecosystem, they are beneficial decomposers.
