Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding
Larvae bore into the heartwood of dead or decaying hardwoods; adults may feed on sap or nectar.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and attracted to lights. They are famous for their extremely long larval stage, sometimes emerging from finished wooden furniture years after it was manufactured.
Risks & Benefits
They pose no risk to humans or pets. While larvae can damage structural timber or furniture, they provide ecological benefits by helping decompose dead hardwood in nature.
