Natural Habitat
Typically found in areas where dried animal products are stored, such as pantries, attics, and museums. They can also be found outdoors under bark or in bird/mammal nests.
Diet & Feeding
Scavengers that feed on dried animal products, including cured meats, cheese, pet food, hides, skins, feathers, and insect collections.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae are the most destructive stage, actively feeding and often boring into materials to pupate. Adults are typically found near food sources and are attracted to light.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include significant damage to stored food products, museum specimens, and natural fiber items. No known benefits, but they are part of the natural decomposition process.
