Natural Habitat
Damp, dark places such as under rocks, logs, leaf litter, and in rotting wood. They are terrestrial crustaceans.
Diet & Feeding
Mostly detritivores, feeding on decaying plant and animal matter, fungi, and sometimes young plants.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal, preferring dark and moist environments. They are known for their 'pauper' behavior, rolling into a ball when disturbed. They breathe through gills, requiring high humidity.
Risks & Benefits
Generally beneficial as decomposers, helping to break down organic matter and recycle nutrients in ecosystems. They pose no direct risks to humans. While they can sometimes feed on young plants, they are not typically considered major agricultural pests.
