Natural Habitat
Human dwellings, primarily found in seams of mattresses, bed frames, cracks and crevices of headboards, and upholstered furniture.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive; they hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They go through five nymphal stages, each requiring a blood meal to molt.
Risks & Benefits
While not known to transmit diseases, their bites can cause allergic reactions, skin rashes, and psychological distress. They are considered a significant public health pest and have no known ecological benefits in domestic settings.
