Size: 12–25 mm (0.5–1 inch) in length

Natural Habitat
Dark, damp environments with relatively high humidity (75-95%). Often found in bathrooms, kitchens, basements, and attics.
Diet & Feeding
Starchy items and polysaccharides, often consuming paper, glue, book bindings, photos, sugar, hair, dandruff, and carpet fibers.
Behavior Patterns
They are nocturnal and move quickly with a distinctive wiggling motion resembling a fish swimming. They are known for avoiding light and can survive for weeks without food.
Risks & Benefits
Generally considered a nuisance pest. They do not bite or transmit disease to humans, but they can cause significant property damage by eating wallpaper, books, and clothing. They are beneficial only in that they decompose organic matter, but not usually in a domestic setting.
