Natural Habitat
Coastal areas, gardens, and wetlands throughout the southern United States, Caribbean, and Central/South America.
Diet & Feeding
Herbivorous; specifically feeds on plants in the Amaryllidaceae family, such as spider lilies, amaryllis, and narcissus.
Behavior Patterns
Often found in large groups (gregarious) during early stages, they are voracious eaters that can quickly defoliate host plants. They are primarily active at night as adult moths.
Risks & Benefits
Considered a significant garden pest due to their ability to damage ornamental lilies; however, they serve as a food source for local birds and lizards within their ecosystem.
