Swamp Milkweed Leaf Beetle
Scientific Name: Labidomera clivicollis
Order & Family: Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae
Size: Typically 6 to 10 mm (0.24 to 0.39 inches) in length.

Natural Habitat
Found in wetlands, marshes, and other areas where its host plant, swamp milkweed (Asclepias incarnata), grows. They are highly dependent on milkweed plants.
Diet & Feeding
Both adult beetles and larvae feed exclusively on the leaves of milkweed plants, primarily swamp milkweed (Asclepias incarnata). They are specialist herbivores.
Behavior Patterns
Adults are often seen on milkweed leaves, where they feed, mate, and lay eggs. Larvae also feed on the leaves. Like other milkweed feeders, they sequester cardenolides (cardiac glycosides) from the milkweed, making them unpalatable or toxic to predators.
Risks & Benefits
Generally considered beneficial or neutral. They do not pose risks to humans. While they feed on milkweed, the impact on overall milkweed plant health is usually minimal. They contribute to the natural ecosystem by being part of the food web and specializing on a common plant.
