Warm, moist environments; found on stems, leaves, and roots of indoor and outdoor plants.

Diet & Feeding

Herbivorous; they use piercing-sucking mouthparts to feed on plant sap (phloem).

Behavior Patterns

Slow-moving; females secrete a white, powdery waxy coating for protection. They often cluster in hidden crevices of plants. Many species reproduce parthenogenetically.

Risks & Benefits

Significant plant pest. They weaken plants by depleting sap, cause yellowing, and secrete honeydew which leads to sooty mold growth. They are of no benefit to humans or gardens.
