Natural Habitat

Warm, humid, and dark environments, often found indoors in kitchens, bathrooms, basements, drains, and sewers. Outdoors, they can be found in leaf litter, under logs, or in sewers.

Diet & Feeding

Omnivorous scavengers, feeding on a wide range of organic matter including food scraps, decaying matter, sweets, starches, decaying plants and animal matter, and even non-food items like paper and glue.

Behavior Patterns

Cockroaches are primarily nocturnal and gregarious. They are known for their rapid movement and ability to scurry into tight spaces. They can infest homes quickly due to their high reproductive rate. They often forage for food at night.

Risks & Benefits

Risks: Can spread bacteria and pathogens, trigger allergies and asthma in sensitive individuals, contaminate food and surfaces, and are a nuisance pest. They do not sting or bite humans offensively, but a bite can occur if food residue is on the skin. Benefits: In natural ecosystems, some species play a role as decomposers, breaking down organic waste.
