Natural Habitat

Open country, farmland, often near human habitation; nests in barns, under bridges, and similar structures.

Diet & Feeding

Primarily insects, caught in flight; especially flies, mosquitoes, beetles, and moths.

Behavior Patterns

Known for their acrobatic flight while hunting insects. Migratory, often traveling long distances between breeding and wintering grounds. Build cup-shaped nests from mud pellets lined with grass and feathers. Social birds, often nesting in colonies.

Risks & Benefits

Benefits: Important insectivores, helping to control insect populations; indicators of environmental health. Risks: No direct risks to humans, but habitat loss and pesticide use can negatively impact their populations.
