Lawn Shrimp (also known as Arcitalitrus sylvaticus or Landhopper)

Natural Habitat

Typically found in moist soil and leaf litter. They often wander indoors or onto patios after heavy rains when their soil habitat becomes saturated, or during droughts seeking moisture.

Diet & Feeding

They are scavengers that feed on decaying organic matter, such as distinct leaf litter and soft rotting wood.

Behavior Patterns

These crustaceans are nocturnal and require high humidity to survive. When they die (often quickly due to desiccation in dry indoor environments), they turn a reddish-orange color, curling into a 'C' shape, resembling a tiny cooked shrimp.

Risks & Benefits

Harmless to humans and pets; they do not bite, sting, or damage property. They are arguably beneficial as decomposers in the garden ecosystem, though their presence indoors is considered a nuisance.
