Size: Typically 0.5 to 1 inch (12–25 mm) in length.

Natural Habitat
Typically found in moist, dark, and humid environments within homes, such as bathrooms, basements, attics, and kitchens. They also live outdoors in leaf litter and under rocks.
Diet & Feeding
They feed on carbohydrates and starches, including paper, book glue, wallpaper paste, clothing (cotton, linen, silk), sugar, and mold.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive, they move quickly in a fish-like wiggling motion (hence the name). They are primitive insects that do not undergo metamorphosis, instead molting throughout their lives.
Risks & Benefits
While they do not bite humans or spread disease, they are considered pests because they can cause significant damage to books, documents, wallpaper, and clothing. They contribute to household allergens.
