Natural Habitat
German cockroaches prefer warm, moist environments, often found indoors in kitchens and bathrooms. Asian cockroaches prefer outdoor habitats, particularly in leaf litter and grassy areas, but are attracted to lights and may fly indoors.
Diet & Feeding
Omnivorous scavengers. They will eat almost anything organic, including food scraps, grease, starches, sweets, meats, and even non-food items like বই bindings and soap.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal; they hide during the day and become active at night to forage for food and water. They are fast runners. Asian cockroaches are strong flyers and are attracted to light, unlike many other cockroach species. German cockroaches are not strong flyers but can glide short distances. They reproduce rapidly.
Risks & Benefits
Risks: Can spread bacteria, pathogens, and allergens, exacerbating asthma and allergies. They can contaminate food and surfaces. Considered pests, especially in homes and food establishments. No known benefits to humans; in ecosystems, they can be part of the detritivore community.
