Moist terrestrial environments such as under rocks, logs, and leaf litter; also commonly found in gardens and basements

Diet & Feeding

Decomposing organic matter, including dead plant material and occasionally young plants

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal; exhibits 'conglobation' (rolling into a ball) as a defense mechanism against predators and to prevent desiccation

Risks & Benefits

Harmless to humans; beneficial to the ecosystem as decomposers that help cycle nutrients back into the soil
