Natural Habitat
Indoor environments, primarily in cracks and crevices near sleeping areas (mattresses, bed frames, headboards)
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal parasites that hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymphal stages, adult) and require a blood meal to molt.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy allergic reactions to bites, sleep deprivation, and psychological distress. While not known to transmit diseases, they can cause skin infections from scratching. There are no ecological benefits to their presence in human dwellings.
