Natural Habitat
Typically found in bird nests (sparrows, pigeons, starlings). They enter homes through windows or vents when birds leave the nest.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate blood-feeders. They primarily feed on the blood of birds but will bite humans if their avian hosts are unavailable.
Behavior Patterns
They are highly mobile and phototactic. They often swarm indoor areas in the late spring and summer. They cannot complete their life cycle on human blood alone.
