Case-bearing Clothes Moth

Natural Habitat

Indoors, especially in undisturbed areas where animal-based materials (wool, fur, feathers, leather) are stored, such as closets, attics, and storage containers.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed on natural fibers of animal origin, including wool, fur, feathers, hair, leather, felt, lint, and sometimes dried foods. Adult moths do not feed.

Behavior Patterns

Larvae construct a silken case, which they carry with them and enlarge as they grow. They are often found in dark, undisturbed areas. Adults are poor fliers and tend to run or hop; they are attracted to light but prefer dark areas for egg-laying. The life cycle can take 2-3 months to several years depending on conditions.

Risks & Benefits

Potential risks include significant damage to clothing, carpets, upholstery, and stored animal products. They are primarily considered a pest. No known benefits.
