Human skin, specifically the stratum corneum layer of the epidermis
Diet & Feeding
Skin cells and extracellular fluid
Behavior Patterns
The female mite burrows into the upper layer of the skin to lay eggs, creating characteristic linear or S-shaped tracks. They are most active at night.
Risks & Benefits
Causes scabies, a contagious skin infestation characterized by intense itching and a pimple-like rash. Secondary bacterial infections can occur from scratching. No known benefits.
