Larvae feed on keratin-containing animal products such as wool, fur, feathers, silk, and felt.

Behavior Patterns

The larva builds a portable silken case incorporating debris from the material it consumes; it remains inside this case as it feeds and eventually pupates.

Risks & Benefits

Considered a household pest as it can cause significant damage to clothing, upholstery, and carpets. They provide no significant benefits to the domestic ecosystem.
