Natural Habitat

Indoors, typically found in dark, undisturbed areas such as under carpets, in closets, attics, and storage areas. They feed on natural fibers.

Diet & Feeding

Keratin-rich materials, including wool, silk, fur, feathers, leather, dead insects, animal carcasses, and sometimes dried foods. They are scavengers.

Behavior Patterns

Larvae are slow-moving and tend to avoid light. They feed on natural fibers and can cause significant damage to textiles and other household items. They undergo complete metamorphosis, turning into adult carpet beetles which are small, oval-shaped beetles that feed on pollen and nectar outdoors.

Risks & Benefits

Risks: Can cause damage to carpets, clothing, upholstered furniture, and other items containing natural fibers. Some individuals may experience skin irritation from contact with their bristles. Benefits: As scavengers, they play a minor role in breaking down organic matter in nature outside of human dwellings.
