Behavior Patterns

Adults mature in the colon; at night, gravid females migrate to the perianal area to lay thousands of microscopic eggs, causing intense itching. This is a common infection, particularly in children.

Risks & Benefits

Causes enterobiasis (pinworm infection), leading to perianal itching, sleep disruption, and irritability. While generally considered a nuisance rather than a severe medical risk, it is highly contagious through ingestion or inhalation of eggs.
