Clothing Moth Egg
Scientific Name: Tineidae (family)
Order & Family: Lepidoptera (Order), Tineidae (Family)
Size: Approximately 0.5 - 1 mm in length.

Natural Habitat
Indoors, in dark, undisturbed areas where natural fibers are stored, such as closets, attics, and drawers. Often found on wool, silk, fur, feathers, and other animal-based textiles.
Diet & Feeding
The adult moths do not feed. The larvae feed on natural fibers, particularly keratin-based materials like wool, cashmere, silk, fur, felt, and sometimes blends with synthetic fibers if natural fibers are present.
Behavior Patterns
Eggs are laid individually or in small clusters directly on suitable food sources (e.g., clothing, carpets, upholstery). They hatch into larvae that cause damage by consuming fibers as they grow. The egg stage typically lasts 4-10 days depending on temperature and humidity. Adults are weak flyers and prefer to crawl or run.
Risks & Benefits
Potential risks include significant damage to clothing, carpets, upholstery, and other household items made from natural fibers, leading to financial loss. There are no known benefits to humans or the ecosystem in a household setting; they are primarily considered pests.
