Diet & Feeding

Exclusively blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal feeders, hiding in cracks and crevices during the day. They are attracted to carbon dioxide and body heat. Females can lay hundreds of eggs over their lifetime.

Risks & Benefits

Risks: Bites can be itchy, cause skin irritation, and in some cases, allergic reactions. They are a significant nuisance pest. They are not known to transmit diseases. Benefits: None to humans or the ecosystem, they are solely a parasitic pest.
