Size: Typically 1-2 mm, but can range from 0.5 to 10 mm

Natural Habitat

Damp, secluded areas with decaying organic matter, often found in books, stored food products, wall voids, and under wallpaper in homes.

Diet & Feeding

Feeds on microscopic molds, fungi, starches, glues in book bindings, wallpaper paste, and other organic debris. They do not bite or sting.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and prefer dark, humid environments. They are often overlooked until populations become large. They move quickly but are not known to fly, even species with wings.

Risks & Benefits

Generally harmless to humans and pets, but can be a nuisance when present in large numbers. Can cause damage to paper products, books, and stored food items if infestations are severe. They do not transmit diseases.
