Natural Habitat
Indoor environments, primarily in cracks and crevices of sleeping areas such as mattresses, box springs, and bed frames.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages, meaning they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal pests that emerge at night to feed. They go through five nymphal stages, requiring a blood meal between each molt. They exhibit a 'breakfast, lunch, and dinner' biting pattern, often leaving bites in a linear row.
Risks & Benefits
While not known to transmit diseases, their bites cause itchy red welts (as seen in the image) and can lead to secondary skin infections or significant psychological distress. They provide no known ecosystem benefits in human dwellings.
